Exposure Visit Gujarat :

Life is all about getting new experiences learning from it and improve our life. Learning and de- learning. Really excited for this new Visit. First time going out of Maharashtra. New state new journey.

On 7 November we reached at Khoba in Dharampur Takula Valsad District in Gujarat. Dharampur is known as Cherapunji of Gujarat.

1Lokmangalam Trust :-

Khoba situated at border of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Sarounded by Sahyadri mountain range, beautiful river flowing parallely to mountains. I never seen such a beautiful village in my life. Villagers belongs to Warli tribes and they speaks Konkani language. They are still struggling for basic needs but organizations like Lokmagalam trust which works in this remote area to development of this tribes. Health, Education, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture. . Understand the reality of life in the remote part of Gujarat.

Trekking in khoba is one of the most thrilling experience of my life. We trek through river flowing through mountain try to find out it origin in that we goes into deep forest. Every small waterfall comes with its own challenges but as a patient of Acro phobia I always try to avoid this kind of risky trekking but this time I thought to push myself until I get overcome on this fear. We trek around three hours starting from 4 Pm and it ended in 7 Pm in evening when we come back it already sunset happens. Walking on risky path in night is also thrilling experience . Finally we reach at bottom and all of us get relaxed. Jungle looks very beautiful in day time but its become more dangerous in night.

Organization structure

All volunteers of are connected through whatsApp group. Organization work in 80 villages and 1 volunteers for clusters of 5 villages.

Organisations Work

Organization work in education, health and water. Provide health services in 50 villages. 4 nursing staff and 2 ambulance. Create awareness among villagers about education to send their children in school because of Lokmangalam trust drop out rate of school going children decrease. Create awareness about government scheme and act as a bridge between common people and government. In agriculture provide guidance about different crops so this tribal people can increase their income sources. Provide Nursery to farmers to plant trees so they can sell that trees to forest department. Eg. Pinparol Village 50 Thousands tree plantation.

The walk that I will remember for my life time. This walk is about understanding NGO work culture. In that one group is blind others help them to reach their goal and third are creating trouble for blinds. In this process blinds are Villagers, Guide are NGO or social sector and third one is hurdles.

To understand the overall structure of village , we setup one structure on the bank of river with use of natural materials. All of has taken separate department and make a program to development of village then make audit and budget of that particular department.

After this activity I get know about challenges in village budget making and its allocation.

agriculture then that person should be charges tax.

Hiran Panjal - Make tool for small farmers . Make convenient tool to avoid diseases related to backbone and other. Design tool area specific first practice it in own garden then ready for more production. Create innovative tools for agriculture. Challenge to make tools which convince farmer and production cost is also high. Tools try to focus on all section like children, women. One tools should do more than two threes activities. More effective chulha than traditional chulha. Earth drogger in half price than online. Free of cost repair and exchange to insure better relationship with farmer. Consume less time and more effective in work. Sell direct to farmers. 4 workers staff.

Villegers speak dialect called Warli and Konkani. Mathematics teachs based on activities. If students get 40℅ marks in math in 6th standard then no point to teach him next level math than basic math. Earlier more drop out rate 80℅ after 10th. So started electrician course house wiring, home appliances, motor repairing one year training . For 15 students.Mathematics needs everywhere and for everyone like electrician. In language teaching include daily story , poem , songs , poster, activities, library for primary students. Creat groups of student based on their level of understanding in same class room. There is no chef in kitchen all students and teachers make food alternatively group wise. Younger girls also make secretary of group so she can learn management skills.

3.Mathawadi-Lakhan Bhai

Sarvodaya Activist. Vasava community and Tadvi community. Live in simple house eat in villegers home and work in their farm. Wild pig problem. Cotton crop also started. Small landing holding farmers. Canal is near by but water is not available for village. Problem of water. Mahua, sitafal, etrees also used for extra income. Bamboo and Sag. Tribal migrate more in northern side of Gujarat. To become responsible citizens of India do a padayatra. Learn to live with all people with cooperation and support. Work on broader aspects in each sector. Don't be anyone's blind followers. Implement only good things which is convient for you.

5 ladies in Nursing, Anganwadi 3 , only organic fertilizer used, electricity available since 15 years, 3/4 house has TV set ,3 police man , most of the houses contain only one light. No dowry system. Marriage in near by villages. Only desi alcohol drink. Agriculture Tuar, Jawar, bhendi. 500 population of village.

Gifted by beautiful nature but still struggle for their existence. People are very humble and helpful in nature. Always try to feel us special. They might be poor but they are rich by heart. Problems in transportation is big concern but scope for improvement. Most people are involved in agriculture in mansoon season they only take kharip crop after that most people migrate to cities in search of employment like labour, unskilled workers in factory. Most children complete their education till 10 after that mostly drop out from school.

Return to Mathawadi

Yarta is important for connectivity with community . Instead of stay at hotel try to stay at villegers home and work with them. Vasavian dialect they speak. To understand culture stay with people. Villegers made their home collectively and give other food.

They are loosing their culture . People have more bonding with eachother. Politics and religious aspects increasing day by day so people's view are changing. Attacks on their culture by external forces. Untill villagers sell wood in market till then development in true from never happened. Teacher not interested to go remote area to teach students. Problem in education system . In Hygiene toilet is not priority people purchase mobile and bike but neglect Hygienic aspects. They spending more on mobile and bike than food. No improvement in diet and health aspects .

Sarvoday is ideology those who are involved in it are trying to do something for betterment of society. Land is not agriculture friendly because on the slope of 45° all importance nutrients in soil are wash out in rainy seasons. Grazing land is decreased. Work capacity reduced. No pressure in living life. Students who are studying in 8 th standard but they don't have basic knowledge of number and simple mathematics they are just studying. High voting percentage in tribal areas . Villagers started to plan turmeric since last few years. Need of more volunteers in villages. They can do collectively work but can't attached with external people or organisation for any kind of work this is in their mentality. Self sufficiency is not possible this days.

Plantation of Himalayan cosmos flower in Gujrat. Higher education is minority. Those who are get higher education social sector are not willing to work in rural area just want to work in AC rooms.

Dhiran bhai left school in early age then work in different sector get expertise in 10 other sector like welding, construction, pottery, wood arts, he learn all skill in minimum 10 month. He doesn't believe in certificate he believes in practical experience. People forgetting Gandhian ideology. Division between India and Bharat. Learning is continues process still student. If your student and learning attitude finished they you will end. Work since last 22 years. All plantation on the basis of organic farming. Interested in agro process. Direct connection with people. He hardly go outside his gate because he creat all ecosystem in his farm. Hardly use car. Less water consuming plants and flowers. Try to audit of water to each crop you plant in farm. He feed his daughter all organic since her birth. She in now 20 years. 11 acres land. 30 varieties of Mangoes. They eat fully grown mangoes on trees. Mostly Kesar mango. Valsadi hapus. Each area has its own test in mango. Rajapuri, Langada, Daseri, Suvarnrekha,. Cross variety amrapali, mallika all planted through cross breeding. Makada Mango whole mango can be eat. Drip irrigation used in horticulture til age of 6 years. He follow policy of minimum used of water.

Price of water is more than extra production of fruits. We are using future generations water so try to minimize used of it. If we didn't preserve water then we will creat problems to next generation. Tube well motor connected to solar. Not using more than 3000 unit of electricity. 7 varieties of turmeric each has their own specialty. All are domestic not hybrid. Hybrid varieties name on numbers but domestic has name of area and village. Turmeric domestic varieties like vadava sagar, sellam. Cow dung and jivamrut used in farm as a organic fertilizer. Red flowering tur attracts less number of insects. 6 quintal in 3 acres tur. 1 litre milk need 200 litre water. 1 litre RO water need 6 litre water. Not used more than half unit in home daily. 3 prices for one products base on income. If farmers do 8 responsibility by himself then ye can earn more money.

Organic Farming -

Dhiren bhai Sakava Village

Self sufficient dependent and organic farming. Only two season farming take 60/70 types of crop with other village industry. Agro processing project. Biogas plant . They set up some norms for village and farm area before purchasing land for organic farming. 2.5 acre farm is enough for one family to fulfill their basic need. Their children learn whatever they want or need since childhood. Basic rural technology course near by Pune. 70 to 80 percent self sufficiency in farming. Only domestic breed sometimes hybrid but no BT crop. Winter crops seed are not available because it's need more cold environment. Organic farming products are not viable and affordable to common people. Village Industry Juice of Ambadi, Borkud, masala Bair, Medicinal crop, tulsi powder all are mostly handmade rearly use machine. Three level of marketing in village industry resell to shop, one to one marketing, seasonal products seasonal marketing. Remove moisture from products to preserve any products. Unity in women, work in education and health, addiction, land and farming problem. Trained in one organization in Ahmadabad. Commety 10 members meet once in month and yearly members one meeting. Weekly Bazaar mostly people are are tribal so don't bargain with them. P

Village observation- houses are away from each other simple houses with natural thinga , crop tur, jawar, cotton, Bamboo, sag , sitaphal, coconut tree, mango, mahua tree, cow, hen are animal husbandry, connectivity is biggest problem, Alpesh bhai help children from this area in his hostel, Gujarat state has big problem of dropout after 6 standard. No life possible without bike each household has their own bike. Teachers not come in school daily. In tribal area language is biggest problem but children are curious to study, at cotton time school drop out increases. Child labour and child marriage rate highest in Country in Makandaamba area.

We have to create such environment where people can take decision themselves. Create good image with government, private and individual level. Some times you didn't get response but we have to continue it , do it from bottom of your heart. We have to make safe distance from government. In vasava community at the time of funeral family will pay all remaining money to lender.

And thats the end of our Gujarat Exposure Visit . This 12 days always be special for me to understand the actual problems of rural India challenges they faces and solutions for it.

First time travelling in Gujarat state transportation. After visiting different organizations in South Gujarat , I go into inner side of Gujarat and try to understand difference between culture and development.
